In the prime of pagers, making an impression on one was a direct yet technologically captivating cycle. This is how it worked:

Numeric Pagers

For numeric pagers, the interaction was moderately basic. Somebody needing to communicate something specific would call an assigned telephone number connected to the pager. After calling, they would hear a progression of beeps provoking them to enter a callback number on their phone's keypad. This number would then be communicated to the pager, showing it as a numeric message, provoking the owner of the pager to return the call.

Alphanumeric Pagers

Sending messages to alphanumeric pagers, which could show instant messages, involved a couple of additional steps. One of the most common methods included calling a service center where an administrator or operator would take down the message and type it into a PC, which then, at that point, sent the message to the pager.
